Herman Edward Sanders, 82 of Zip City, AL departed this life on Monday, September 17, 2012, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer.
Mr. Sanders was born February 12, 1930, in Jasper, TX, to Sam and Lucy Sanders. He lives the majority of his life in Texas, moving to Alabama after his retirement from the City of Baytown, TX and the Houston Water Authority.
Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Beatrice Grimes, Molly Boyett; Nieces, Wanda Wallingford, Helen Roberts; nephew, Rubin A. Cox, Jr.
Left to treasure his memory, are his wife of 49 years, Irene Tipton Sanders; sister, Berniece Cox (Livingston, TX); sister-in-law, Julia Tipton Broussard (Paul) of Florence, AL; nephews, Edward Boyett (Mont Belvieu, TX), Randy Cox (Livingston, TX), Louis (Darci) Broussard, Alan (Emily) Broussard, Stephen Broussard, Robert Broussard (all of Florence, AL); nieces, Edith Pace (Mont Belvieu, TX), Rebecca Kelly (Livingston, TX); 10 great nieces and nephews and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sanders was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Florence, AL and was a 32nd degree Mason, with Lodge #1192, Bayton, TX for over 50 years. Masonic rites will be performed at the graveside by local Masons.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed cattle farming, deer hunting, fishing, and gardening. Having no children of his own, “Uncle” to many, he was devoted to his family, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 11-12:00 at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 in Greenview Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Canterbury and Rev. Jim Webster officiating. Interment will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Alan, Stephen, Robert Broussard, and Edward Boyett, and great-nephews; David Trahan and Issac Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be nephew, Louis Broussard and special friend, Joel Robert (Joe Bob) Stephenson, Jr.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Drs. Martin, McCoy, Boye, Daugherty and Patel, and most especially Dr. Webb and the Pallative Care Unit and Staff at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, for their compassionate care.
