Henry Spruell Grissom, 73, Spruce Pine, Ala., passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at his residence at Frog Pond, Ala.
He lived most all of his life in Franklin County and was a member of Isbell Church of Christ. In his high school years, he was an active 4-H Club officer. He also held the statewide office for 4-H of Vice-President. He attended the University of North Alabama, where he was president of his freshman class in 1957. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity – Xi Chapter. He was a Captain in the United States Marines from 1962 until 1971. He was a council member for Northwest Alabama RC&D and supported their community based projects. He was an active community advocate and instrumental in securing and operating the Frog Pond Community Center and the Frog Pond Volunteer Fire Department. He was retired from International Mineral and Chemical and Merrill Lynch.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, from 10 a.m. until noon at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville. George Hutto is officiating. Graveside service will be on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at 1:15 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo with full military honors. Burial will follow immediately after the service. Pallbearers will be members of the Frog Pond Volunteer Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Buford Arnold and Jerry Sibley. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, to make donations in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society .
Survivors include his wife, Janice Edna Logan Grissom, Spruce Pine; children, Elizabeth Grissom Forsythe and husband, Jeff, Spruce Pine, Andrea Grissom Wade and husband, Ryan, Gravel Hill; sisters, Ruth Stone, Russellville, Paulette Todd, Spruce Pine, Genell Hayes, Tuscumbia; brother, Roy Grissom, Spruce Pine; grandchildren, Henry (Hank) Grafton Forsythe, Holly Logan Hargett, Logan Grafton Forsythe, Justin Ryan Wade; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Oscar Lane and Clara Ruby King Grissom; sister, Dorothy Jackson; brother, Howard Grissom.
Pinkard Funeral Home Russellville will be directing.
