Henry Jay “Pete” Roberson – Obituary

Funeral service for Henry Jay “Pete” Roberson, 81, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown Service Funeral Home with Brother Paul Smith officiating and Ridout’s Brown Service directing. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the interment at Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Roberson died on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 12:15 a.m., at home with the family. He was born on February 18, 1932, to the late Henry Jasper and Clara Seales Roberson. He served in the Air Force Division stationed at Lackland AF Base, San Antonio, Texas, worked at Brookley Field Air Force Base, Mobile Alabama until it closed in 1965, transferred to Redstone Aresenal in 1965, worked primarily on the TOWE missle at the U.S. Army Missle Command Post where he retired after 37 years of dedicated service and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Semmes, Alabama. He was involved in Decatur’s youth recreation for many years where he served as Commissioner of Dixie Youth Baseball in the mid 70’s. He grew up and lived with a strong work ethic, was well known as a man of his word, and a valued friend. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Roberson Garner; and one sister, Bertha Lee Evans.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alice Janet Roberson; one daughter, Sharon Weeks (Leslie); one son, Jay Roberson (Debra), all of Decatur; and one sister, Ruth Hunsberger of Sterling, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.ORG). Special thanks to the women of The Hospice of The Valley and to Dr. Scott Matthews for the patience, diligence, and dedication to which he performs in his medical practice.
