Henry H. Prater, “Coach”, 74, a lifelong resident of Florence passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, James Russell Prater; mother, Helen Conner Prater; brother, Jim Prater all of Florence. Henry is survived by his daughter, Tracey Prater of Florence; son, Hank Prater of Florence; granddaughter, Chelsea Prater of Florence; nephews, Tim Prater and wife, Renee; Rusty Prater, Sam Prater and wife Cindy all of the Nashville, TN area.
Henry was a graduate of Coffee high School, class of 1957 and Florence State College where he earned a BS and Master’s Degree in Physical Education. His working career was spent as a football coach, teacher and education administrator. He retired from the Lauderdale County School system.
Henry’s love, care and devotion for his students, lifelong friends and family will be long remembered.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10 a.m.in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating will be friend and Pastor Charles Canterbury.
