Henry Bruce Palmer – Obituary

Henry Bruce Palmer, 76, of Tuscumbia, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of Tuscumbia. He devoted most of his adult life in serving Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be 11-1 p.m. today at Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church with a memorial service at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Stonebraker, UMC District Superintendent, assisted by the Rev. Chuck Bradford.

Bruce is survived by his wife June; daughters, Pat Bradford (John) and Carol Emmons (Barry); grandchildren, Kathryn Inman and Chuck Bradford (Tiffany); great-granddaughter, Angela Angus; and sister, Peggy Palmer McNees (Jim). He was passionate about his family; a true protector and provider.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Palmer Jr. and Evadell Cook Palmer; and brother Robert A. Palmer III.

He was retired from Reynolds Metals. Bruce was a pastor for 31 years, 19 years in the Methodist church, serving Barton and Mhoontown churches. He was lay associate at Tuscumbia for a few years and served as pastor at an independent church for 12 years. He preached his last message on Jan. 5, 2014, at Mhoontown United Methodist Church to a loving and supportive congregation.

His caring spirit touched many as he shared Jesus Christ. He had a great love for missions, especially to the Native Americans in Four Corners, New Mexico and Hopi Land.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Mhoontown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 443, Cherokee, AL 35616, or Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be nephews and men from Mhoontown United Methodist Church.
