MUSCLE SHOALS-The room is packed full of eager music lovers, a blur passes through the crowd several times. You’re not sure who it is… all you see is someone wearing a pony tail, baseball cap, t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops – it’s the dead of winter! Someone yells; “Hey Johnny”, and that’s the first time most in attendance actually see Johnny Belew. He’s the Tourism Ambassador of Colbert County, a well-known Chef and has a deep passion for bringing musicians and people together for a concert or a night if impromptu music. Johnny has been doing this for years and introduced local audiences to a Blues singer from the U.K., and endeared himself to tourists from Canada who have returned to the Shoals several times. He is always on the move making friends and finding wonderful music.

A few weeks after the swelling went down the doctor operated on Johnny’s ankle and put him in a cast. Needless to say he is unable to earn a living as a Chef or a promoter for several months. Having no medical insurance, his bills are adding up and a member of our Community needs your help.
Through the kindness of Wade and Laura Baker (owners of Champy’s), they have made the restaurant available for a Benefit – Help Get Johnny Back On His Feet; Thursday, June 10th from 6-9pm. (Thank you Jim Seales for the Benefit name!) There will be so many musicians performing we can’t tell you their names for fear of leaving someone out! There will also be a live Auction at Champy’s – items donated by the people who respect and care about Johnny’s well being. Johnny has both Venmo and PayPal Accounts; any amount of money donated will help. We hope to see you on June 10th at Champy’s to Help Get Johnny Back On His Feet! For further information, please call Melanie Orseske 256-443-9201.
