Helicopter Crashes; No Survivors Closing Burwell Road In Harvest

MADISON COUNTY-Emergency crews are responding to a helicopter crash near Highway 53 and Burwell Road in Madison County around 3:00PM on Thursday. There has been no word on the number of people on board the copter.

According to authorities with HEMSI there were no survivors from the crash of the UH-60, Black Hawk helicopter. It was confirmed by the Federal Aviation Agency that the helicopter involved in the crash was military.  Details of the flight pattern have not been released and it is not believed to be from Redstone.

Message from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency regarding the helicopter crash:

“A Helicopter crash that occurred at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, has caused a road closure.

A UH-60 Helicopter crashed on Alabama 53 near the intersection of Burrell Road in Madison County.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division in-conjunction with deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with securing the scene.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.”

“Madison County Sheriff’s Office: Madison County Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene of a helicopter crash.

The area affected is Highway 53 near Burwell Road. We anticipate evening traffic to experience heavy delays in this area throughout the evening.

Everything south of Hwy 53 to Jeff Road is CLOSED, as well as between Douglas Road and Hwy 53. Please use an alternate route due to roadway closures anticipated throughout the evening. ~ Madison County Sheriff’s Office
