Helen Thornton Stamps – Obituary

Helen Thornton Stamps, 80, of Lexington, AL, passed away October 14, 2015 after an extended illness. Mrs. Stamps was a mother and housewife and a member of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Stamps is survived by daughter Melissa Eldelman of Nashville, TN; brothers John Thornton of Lexington, James Thornton of Rogersville, AL, Neal Thornton (Millie) of Lexington, and Richard Thornton (Shirley) of Florence, AL; sisters Lillie Crosswhite of Zion, IL, Janie Carter of Wonder Lake, IL, and Katherine Roach (Donnie) of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Nathan McKinley Thornton and Virgie Estelle Chandler Thornton; husband Arland Stamps; brothers Oscar Thornton, G.W. Thornton, Tom Gray, Bobby Thornton, and Robert Lee Thornton; and sister Dora Clemmons.

Visitation will be Friday, October 16, 2015 from 2-3:00 P.M. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Lexington, AL. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the church with Pastor Jason Vinson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of Tennessee Valley. They would especially like to thank loving caregivers Linda, Nell, Mary, and Denise and also Dr. Williams Hobbs for their fine care of Mrs. Stamps.
