helenHelen Schrimsher Curtis-Wallace, 86, of Huntsville, called “Sis” or “Sister” by her brothers, passed away Thursday. She was preceded in death by her parents JT “Jim” Schrimsher and Bessie Preston Schrimsher; husband, J. Mack Curtis; daughter, Lisa Curtis; brothers, Vernon Schrimsher, James Schrimsher, Dorman Schrimsher, and Edgar Schrimsher; and sister-in-law, Vivian Schrimsher Ozburn.

Survivors include husband, Robert Wallace; daughter, Leigh Curtis Bee; grandchildren, John Allen Bee (Angela), and Melissa Bee Settle (Stephen); great-grandchild, Kelley Claire Bee, and sisters-in-law, Pat Schrimsher Cook, Ann Schrimsher, and Peggy Schrimsher.

Mrs. Curtis-Wallace graduated from Huntsville High School in 1947, and attended UAH, where she took every Accounting course offered. She worked at the family business, JT Schrimsher Construction Company, Inc. for many years, and retired from the US Army Space & Strategic Defense Command in 1993. A member of First United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school to children for many years. She volunteered at Jones Valley Elementary where her grandchildren attended. Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She dedicated her life to spreading God’s word through her sweetness, kindness and patience. She was always willing to give herself whole heartedly to anyone and everyone. Whether it was cooking, running errands, grocery shopping, or offering kind words of encouragement, you knew she would always be there for you. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon Monday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at noon in the chapel with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice or First United Methodist Church.
