Helen Mavis Jones KimbrellHelen Mavis Jones Kimbrell, age 93, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022 at Limestone Nursing Facility and Rehab in Athens, AL. She was born Saturday, August 24, 1929. She was the daughter of William Edward Hughie Houston Jones and Nellie Malinda Robinson Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Hershal Houston (Oletta White) Jones, her son, William Otto Kimbrell; a nephew, Haney Randall Jones; a niece, Debbie Jones (Odel) Iddins. Mavis was a graduate of Ardmore High School Class of 1947. She was also a graduate of the University of North Alabama where she received her Bachelor’s degree in education. Mavis taught school at Decatur and she spent the rest of her teaching career at Ardmore where she retired.

After her retirement, she spent the rest of her life sitting with women who were sick or shut in. Mavis loved reading and watching the News. She also loved tracing her family genealogy. Mavis was also a working member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Mavis is survived by her grandson, William Kirk Kimbrell of MS; a nephew, Joe (Bev) Jones of Priceville, AL; a niece, Diane (Robert) Noel of Huntsville, AL; and her cousin and best friend, Clarise Faye Brock of Elkmont, AL.

There will be a Graveside Service Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Gatlin Cemetery with Bro. Jason Moore officiating the service.
