unnamed-1TUSCUMBIA-Alabama author Jeanie Thompson’s poetry collection, “The Myth of Water,” traces Keller’s life from Tuscumbia to the world stage. A blend of poetry, history and memoir—presents a cycle of 34 poems told in the voice of Keller, her teacher, and other historical figures.

People are invited to meet Thompson at 2 p.m., Sept. 11, at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. Introduction by Sue Pilkilton, Executive Director Birthplace of Helen Keller, Ivy Green.

Well-known photographer and recently-retired UNA Professor of Art, Wayne Sides, created the book’s cover illustration, a photograph of hands. Sides will join Thompson to answer questions about the process of artistic collaboration.

Thompson is the founding executive director of the Alabama Writers’ Forum, a statewide literary arts service organization based in Montgomery, and teaches at Spalding University’s low-residency MFA in Writing program.
