Helen Gillespie age 92 went to be with her Lord on July 16, 2018 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born December 8, 1925 in Denver, Colorado. Her family moved to San Diego, California where she graduated from San Diego High School and received a degree from UCLA. In June 1947 she
married Lowery Morgan Gillespie in Los Angeles and moved to Boaz, AL.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Lowery Morgan Gillespie, son, Robert Gillespie, daughter, Jeannine Gillespie, granddaughter, Katherine Gillespie and parents Ralph and Mabel Hartwick.
Helen is survived by sisters in law, Gaynell Gillespie, Donna Gillespie, nieces Mona Tucker, Margo Gillespie, nephew Tim Gillespie and special caretaker, Charlene Alexander.
Helen’s career was teaching first grade in Sardis and then Boaz. She was a member of First Baptist Church Boaz where she sang in the choir for more than 50 years, taught Sunday School, and served as
WMU Director for both the church and Marshall Association. In the community Helen was active in
The Progressive Study Club, PTA and multiple bridge clubs. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music and opera.
The funeral will be Wednesday, July 16, 2018 at Carr Funeral Home Boaz with visitation from Noon to 2:00 PM and the funeral at 2:00 PM. Burial is at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pastors Aaron Johnson, Jonathan Lancaster and Keith Dodd officiating.
