Helen Bailey Maddox – Obituary

Helen Bailey Maddox, age 84, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Ridgeview Health Center in Jasper. She was born May 28, 1931 in the Old Sipsey Mining Camp where she lived until the family moved to a farm in Lupton.

Helen was a resident of the Old Prospect community near Carbon Hill for over 60 years and was a devoted member of Prospect Methodist Church. She was loved by all who knew her, for her kind and giving ways. Her hospitality was in the best tradition of the South. Visitors to her home could always count on a bountiful home-cooked meal. Relatives from Bear Creek, AL to Detroit, Michigan, knew they would receive a joyful welcome when coming to Helen and Hoke’s house. She will be missed greatly by all.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, May 13, 2016 at 12:00 PM in the Collins-Burke Chapel, with burial at Walker Memory Gardens. Anthony Gilbreath will officiate.

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved Husband-Osborn Hoke Maddox; Grandsons-Michael Sean Laird and Jerry Christopher Maddox; Parents-Fred and Myrtle Bailey; Brothers-Robert and Cecil Bailey; Sister-Margaret Naramore and Brother-in-law-Preston Naramore.

Helen is survived by her Son-Jerry Maddox (Reba) of Carbon Hill; Daughter-Patti Davis (Mickey) of Jasper; Grandchildren-Kevin Laird (Cheryl) of Jasper, Kimberly Vintson (Cody) of Jasper, Maightlyn Maddox of Vestavia and Leslie Maddox of Maylene; Great Grandson-Bentlee Vintson of Jasper; Sisters-in-law-Jean Bailey of Kimberly and Betty Bailey of Thach; Many nieces and nephews; Special Friends-Onnie Bea Atkins of Old Prospect and Georgia Mae Smith of Jasper.
