The funeral service for Hazel Otto “Bo” Johnson Jr., age 78 of Barfield, will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 1100 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the U. A. B. Medical Center. He was a native of Burke County, Georgia and grew up in Savannah. Mr. Burke enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and after serving for three years joined the Air National Guard. After relocating to Roanoke, AL, he became a self-employed business owner then worked in the Fabric and Fiber division for AMOCO. Mr. Burke worked his way up to the position of maintenance supervisor then project manager with the corporate office. He then joined Johnson Controls Incorporated where he worked until his retirement as major projects manager for jobs all over the Southeast region. Mr. Johnson was a mentor to many throughout the years and was known as a caring and selfless person who loved his family and home. He was a member of the Woodland Church of Christ.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laverne Johnson of Barfield; two daughters: Tabitha Stone (Tony) and Bridget Kelley (Donny), both of Barfield; two sons: Troy Johnson (Gail) of Salem, AL and Gary Tyrell Johnson (Cheryle) of Seattle, WA; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Hazel Otto Johnson Sr. and Mildred Godbee Johnson and his sister, Secina Turner.
Friends and family members will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland.
