One of the great seamstress and matriarch of the Pettigrew family, Hattie Pearl Pettigrew, transformed from this life to the life eternal, from Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Her death at age 90 occurred Tuesday, March 13, 2018 after several years of declining health. Born on October 8, 1927 in Union County to the late John and Ora Lee Crumpton Bailey, she grew up there and lived most of her adult life in Lee County. She and her late husband, Theron, lived many years in the Union Community south of Plantersville, where they had a small farm. Hattie Pearl’s legacy will be that of a master seamstress. She worked many years selling fabric at Hancock’s Fabric. Hattie Pearl sewed for the public most of her life, could repair anything and even designed and produced clothing. Her skill at the sewing machine was uncompromised and very detailed. She loved her customers and they loved her, often sewing for the 2nd and 3rd generation of families. A devout Christian woman, she was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church of Plantersville. She was a superb cook and canner of products from her gardens. Hattie Pearl was an encourager of so many people over her long life either through cards, phone calls or personal visits. She was a special soul whose life made a difference to everyone.
