Harry Eugene “Gene” Bailes, 79, passed away peacefully at home November 15, 2021. A native Huntsvillian, he was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lorene Bailes, and daughter, Darla Scott. Survivors include his wife, Ellen; son, Jason Bailes; stepson, Donnie Weston (Leigh); stepdaughter, Donna Heavey (Darryl); grandchildren, Rebecca, Jessica and Jackson; and step grandson, Jack Weston. Gene graduated from Huntsville High School in 1960. He was a camp counselor and lifeguard at Camp Cha-la-kee for the YMCA and was also a lifeguard at the Huntsville City Pool. His lifelong career was in the automobile business. Gene was a member of the VFW/American Legion. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of North Alabama. A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of North Alabama.
