Harold Selman, age 89, resident of Gulfport, Mississippi and formerly of Decatur, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017.
Mr. Selman served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was employed by U.S. Steel Corporation, Fairfield Works for thirty seven-and-a-half years. As a steelworker he was a member of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 1013, where he held various leadership positions. He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church in Decatur, Alabama and family and friends will fondly remember him as a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy and Vera Burke Selman; daughter, Connie Alexander; grandson, Harold Griffith “Griff” Alexander; and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Martha Griffith Selman; grandsons, Mark Alexander, of Gulfport, and Sam Alexander (Cheli), of Houston, Texas; sisters, Shirley Thrasher and Kathleen Colvin; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Tripp; and former son-in-law, Rod Alexander.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at St. John Episcopal Church, Decatur, Alabama, at noon. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
