Harold Leroy Scott was born in Westport, TN on May 31, 1929. He passed away on June 15, 2024 at the age of 95 at the Richland Health Center in Nashville, TN. The middle child of William Benjamin Scott and Letha Laycook Scott, Harold grew up surrounded by family in west Tennessee until the family moved to Old Hickory, TN. While growing up Harold was involved in scouting, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. After finishing at DuPont High School, he attended David Lipscomb College, majoring in Speech. He would later go on to earn a master’s degree in Speech from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. While in college at Lipscomb, he excelled at tennis and enjoyed being part of the university tennis team. He met Mary Nicholas Scott due to the fact that their lockers were next to each other- and the two were happily married for 70 years. A minister for 70 years with the churches of Christ, Harold served churches in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee as well as establishing a congregation in Christchurch, New Zealand with a team of four families. He was an avid fly fisherman – nothing made him happier than spending a day on the lake or the river fishing for trout, salmon, or other fish. He also greatly enjoyed his volunteer service as a police chaplain in Knoxville, Tn and in Oak Ridge Tn.
Harold is survived by daughters Linda Scott Trevathan (Ed) and Sara Scott Camp; son Winfield Gray Scott died in an automobile accident in 1983. His sister Peggy Scott Holley (Ed) resides in Austin, TX, while brother Wallace Scott and parents, William Benjamin and Letha Laycook Scott, preceded Harold in death. Grandchildren are Alison Baker of Austin, TX, Scott Trevathan (Libby) of Los Gatos Ca, Daniel Trevathan (Allie) and Luke Trevathan (Amy) of Nashville, TN, and Will and Nathan Camp of Nashville. Harold has 5 great grandchildren as well as numerous cousins and extended family members whom he cherished, especially son Gray’s wife, Vicki Scott Bell, and her children, Abby,Hallie, and Andrew Bell.
A celebration of life will be held at the Bellevue Church of Christ on Saturday, June 29. Visitation with the family is from 12:30- 2:00 and a memorial service will begin at 2 pm.
