Harold Grant Morgan, age 60, passed away September 21, 2026, at AccentCare
Inpatient Hospice Center in Cumming, Georgia, following a valiant two-year battle with
cancer.
Grant was born January 26, 1966, in Centre, Alabama to parents Mildred Jeannette
Phillips (Morgan) Chandler and Aubrey Joel Morgan, Sr.
Grant was a lifelong resident of the Jacksonville, Alabama, area. He was a graduate of
Pleasant Valley High School’s Charter Class of 1985. Grant pledged his heart to Dene
Birdsong Donaldson when they wed on June 11, 2017. Grant’s career as a large
equipment operator and a semi-truck driver spanned from the timber industry to long
distance driving from Alabama to the western coast. He especially enjoyed the
comradery of his fellow work mates and drivers.
After retiring, Grant enjoyed spending time with his wife Dene and loyal Pomeranian
Merle, making outdoor furniture, gardening, and fishing. His greatest joy was spending
time with friends and his large family. He always expressed avid interest in the lives of
his siblings, stepchildren, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and cousins.
Grant will be deeply missed and forever remembered by family and friends.
Grant is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Reverend Aubrey Harold
Morgan and Ruby Bass Morgan, Charlie Grant Phillips and Ila B Shealy Phillips,
stepfather James Arthur Chandler and brother James Randall “Randy” Chandler.
He is survived by his wife Melanie Dene Morgan (Birdsong), stepchildren Leah Velez (Gabriel Velez), Brooke Donaldson (Jay Rounta), Laura Hughes (Robert Hughes), April Donaldson (Luise Martinez) and grandchildren Anibal and Logan Martinez, McKenzie and Autumn Hughes, and Robin Velez, siblings Greg Morgan, Sr. (Heidi Morgan), Susan Chandler Parker (Donald “Chip” Parker), Scotty Chandler (Amanda Chandler), Joel Morgan, Jr., Teresa Cox, Lisa Hyatt, several aunts, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life service in honor of our beloved Grant on October 3, 2026, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Alexandria Emmanuel Holiness Church located at 627 Lowimoore Road, Alexandria, Alabama 36250.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Grant’s memory to the American Cancer
Society or the Cancer Research Institute.
