Harold Cecil Young, 93, of Florence, AL passed away on March 15, 2016 at his residence. He was a member of the United States Army Air Corp. from 1943-1946. He retired as an agricultural economist with TVA. He was a member of the Midway Church of Christ; preached for many church of Christ congregations in Lauderdale and surrounding counties and a counselor for twenty-five years for the Rustic Youth Camp.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Greenview Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Dan McMahan officiating assisted by Donald Collier. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Young and Omie Tidwell Young Overby; brothers, Cletus, Joe, Robert and Melvin Young; sisters, Jewel Lawson, Ruby Burchett, Lelia Usrey and Rachel Young.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Doris Culver Young; daughters, Judy Atkerson (Gary, Sr.) and LaNette Coburn (Steve, Sr.); grandchildren, Seanette Atkerson Collier (Donald), Crissy Ann Atkerson, Ginger Atkerson Mizell(Sam), G.W. Atkerson, Jr. (Julie), Steve Coburn, Jr. (Nikkia) and Scott Coburn; great-grandchildren, Scarlette and Sophie Collier, Harper Atkerson, Kaitlyn, Kristyn, and Kaden Coburn and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Atkerson, Sr., Crissy Atkerson, G.W.Atkerson, Jr., Donald Collier, Steve Coburn, Jr., and Scott Coburn.
Ginger Atkerson Mizell will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
