ATHENS-On Wednesday, May 6th, we will have our annual Athens-Limestone Community Breakfast. Eagle Scout and Boy Scout projects have benefited our community in many ways from improvements on the Swan Creek Trail to enhancements at the Farmers Market to assisting the Athens-Limestone Public Library with its move to a new location. On Wednesday, Mayor
Ronnie Marks, Commission Chairman Mark Yarbrough, and Limestone County Schools Superintendent Tom Sisk will host the Athens-Limestone Community Breakfast at the Beasley Center starting at 7 a.m. to raise funds for the Arrowhead District, which serves troops in Athens and Limestone County.
During the program, the Scouts will honor members of our farming community with Heart of an Eagle Awards. Our guest speaker is Calhoun Community College President
.
Also, on Friday and Saturday, May 8th and 9th Athens Police Department, along with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department, will participate in the annual Cops on Top event. This will be at Wal-mart on U.S. 72 in Athens from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. both days. Cops will be going in the air to take donations for Special Olympics. Money raised supports our local Special Olympic athletes with costs associated with competing in Troy.
On Saturday, May 9th the City of Athens Relay for Life Team will be hosting our annual City of Athens Relay for Life Team Bass Fishing Tournament at Ingalls Harbor in Decatur. Al Dutton helped us start this main fundraiser in 2012 with the help of Limestone Lunkers. He died from cancer in 2013 – the same weekend as our second tournament. Boaters will launch at safe light and return at 3 p.m.
