MUSCLE SHOALS – This weekend saw a huge party at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center. Of course, it was the 2014 Alabama Music Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony. More than just a celebration of the great artists who were this year’s new members to the Hall of Fame, it was a clear statement that the Hall of Fame was back. The facility was shuttered for almost a year when state funding ran out. The 2012 Awards Ceremony didn’t happen at all.
A movie, “MUSCLE SHOALS” happened. And things changed. Alabama State Tourism Director, Lee Sentell worked his magic with Governor Robert Bentley. Together, they came up with money to once again open the doors to revitalize this most-important State-chartered organization.
Six Alabama musicians were inducted. The honored group includes country artist Hank Locklin, jazz musician Sun Ra, industry producer Charlie Monk, singer Candi Staton and songwriters and musicians Spooner Oldham and Dan Penn.
The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to capture the moment in our famous EVENT PHOTOS. We present them here. Feel free to make yourself a free copy. They are sized nice and big and print out nicely on a standard printer. If you have a photo printer, the quality is outstanding. Please remember, no commercial uses, please!
