TUSCUMBIA: Tuscumbia attorney Hal Hughston, III announced he is launching a campaign for District Attorney of Colbert County. He is running as a Republican.
Current Colbert County District Attorney Bryce Graham has announced he is not seeking re-election.
“I’ve learned a lot from our current District Attorney, Bryce Graham, who has announced he is not seeking re-election,” Hughston said. “As DA, my top priority will be to keep you safe. I will hold criminals accountable for their actions, and I will offer rehabilitation for those who need it.”
Hughston is a native of Tuscumbia and played football for Deshler High School and Samford University before graduating from Mississippi College School of Law in 2008. He is the third generation of his family to practice law in Colbert County.
Hughston serves as the City Prosecutor and Attorney for Tuscumbia and also works as a criminal defense attorney practicing in the areas of personal injury, family law and estate planning.
Hughston is married to Kimberly Nesbitt Hughston, daughter of Shawn and the late Steve Nesbitt, who left a legacy of community involvement and service.
Kimberly, grew up in Muscle Shoals and graduated from Muscle Shoals High School and Auburn University. She earned an MBA from the University of North Alabama and is the Director of the Small Business Development Center at UNA.
The Hughstons reside in Tuscumbia with their two young children. They are involved in the Shoals community, serving on various boards and in civic organizations, and are active members of First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia.
Hughston’s father, Hal Hughston Jr., and grandfather, Harold Hughston, both served as circuit court judge in Colbert County.
“The Hughstons have a family tradition of serving this community, and I would be honored to have the opportunity to continue that tradition by serving as your Colbert County District Attorney,” Hughston said.
