Haddock appoints Willett as Interim-Chief – Begins search for full time leader – PHOTO GALLERY

FLORENCE – Florence Fire Chief Charlie Cochran tendered his resignation 3 weeks ago and took some accrued vacation time. Today, Mayor Mickey Haddock announced that Battalion chief Terry Willett will assume the post of Chief on a temporary basis.

Originally from the Central community, he has worked for the City of Florence as a fireman for 40 years as of this November. Haddock said in his prepared remarks, “Chief Willett has dedicated his whole life to the protection of our citizens and has moved up through the ranks in the Department.”

Willett earned a BS Degree in Public Safety Administration from Athens State University. He holds an Associated Degree in Applied Science, Fire Science, and Fire Services Management from Northwest Shoals Community College. He earned a 4.0 grade-point average in both degrees . In addition to his diplomas, Willett has numerous certifications in all areas of fire operations and leadership from Wallace State Fire College’s National Fire Academy.

The City of Florence is just beginning the search for a replacement for Chief Cochran.
