Funeral Services for Mr. Gwen R. McCollum, age 86 of Lineville, will be held on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Pine Grove Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Billy Taylor, his son in law Gary Clark and Rev. Ben Rosser officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining Cemetery.
Mr. McCollum passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Clay County Nursing Home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, a hardworking man that did whatever it took to take care of his family. He worked several years at Higgins Mfg. East Central Alabama Gas, a poultry producer, fruit and vegetable stand operator and pulpwooder. Gwen was an avid Lineville Aggie Fan and only missed one game throughout his life. After the schools combined he was a loyal supporter of Clay Central as well, and was passionate about Alabama Football too. He was a Member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Mr. McCollum is survived by his daughters, Cindy Clark(Gary) of Wadley, Cathy Sharp(Terry) of Lineville; sons, Dale McCollum(Wanda) of Lineville and Gwen McCollum, Jr. of Lineville; and daughter-in-law, Tanya McCollum of Thomaston, GA; his grandchildren: Chris McCollum(Amy), Justin McCollum(Ashley), Nicole Mathews (Taylor), Casey Fulghum (Ryan), Michael Clark(Allison), Johnathan Clark(Kayla), Tyler Clark, Scott Brand(Caitlyn), Adam Brand and Bailey Camp; 17 great-grandchildren, plus a host of other close family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents: William Omer and Florence Yates McCollum; wife, Ann Yarbrough McCollum; son, Terry McCollum; brothers, Leonard and Felton McCollum and great-grandchild Anna Clark
Active Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris McCollum, Justin McCollum, Scott Brand, Adam Brand, Michael Clark, Tyler Clark, Johnathan Clark and Bailey Camp. Honorary pallbearers will be Norphlet McCollum, Bill McCollum, Keith McCollum, Carey Yates, Winford McDonald, Kris and Vickie Herron and the Pine Grove Men’s Sunday School Class.
His visitation will take place on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Pine Grove Baptist Church from 9:30 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
