Guthrie Anton (Tony) Mabrey died peacefully at home on March 29, 2018. Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, 2018 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Pastor Chris Biernacki officiating. He was laid to rest in Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he led a weekly Bible study. Studying God’s word was his calling and his life’s passion.

Tony was a graduate of Auburn University and earned a Master’s degree at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He was employed with International Paper Company for 33 years as a chemical engineer and retired from Jimmy Dean Foods as an environmental consultant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guthrie S. Mabrey and Katherine Konstanzer Mabrey. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty Wolff Mabrey; brother, Jay E. Mabrey, of Plano, Texas; son, John Guthrie Mabrey and devoted daughter-in-law, Carla Register Mabrey, of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Jay Luther Mabrey and devoted daughter-in-law, Lupita Mabrey, of Douglasville, Georgia; grandchildren, Dillon and MacKenzie Mabrey, Catherine and McKenna Johnson, Celest and Matthew Mabrey, Fraser and Mabrey Pearson; special aunt, Ruth Rice; and daughter, Katherine Pearson (Chris).

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all those who sustained us with kindness, patience, and love during Tony’s illness and death. To each member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and to Pastor Chris Biernacki for unfailing support. To the Bible study group who gave us the courage and strength to persevere when times were difficult. To those friends at the YMCA of the Shoals for the daily smiles and prayers. To the neighbors who stepped in to help in so many ways and to the precious couple who took complete responsibility for the care of our pets while we were away.

Tony loved all God’s creatures and especially his beloved pets. Please remember the P.A.W.S. organization and the local animal shelters.

Greenview Funeral Home assisted the family.
