Gregory Lawrence Morton was born July 23, 1967 in Atlantic City, NJ. He grew up in Pennsville, NJ and departed this life in Huntsville, AL on September 6, 2020. Growing up he loved spending time with his grandparents, Henrietta and Herbert Morton in Penns Grove, NJ. He attended both culinary school and cosmetology school. He loved working at the casinos in Atlantic City. He moved to Philadelphia where he began working at Outback, CVS, Kohls, and Bed Bath and Beyond where he met his wife, Laurie. They moved to Huntsville where he worked at Dillard’s, Cash Connection, Advance America and finally BankCorp. Whichever job he had, he put his heart and soul into it.
Greg had many adventures with Kim O’Neil Petroski in Philadelphia. They were like brother and sister, frequently going on late night cheesesteak runs to Pats and apple pie with vanilla sauce at Melrose diner. He was a foodie. His first comment every morning was, “What are we going to do about dinner?” He loved subs from Whitehouse Subs in Atlantic City. His all-time favorite meal was chicken and dumplings from CJ’s Famous Chicken Pot Pie where you bought your own pot to fill.
Greg and Laurie were married on June 5, 2004 in Toledo, Ohio where Laurie grew up. They had no children, but they had fur babies. They moved to Huntsville in 2006. Greg became an avid University of Alabama fan much to the chagrin of his wife, a faithful Buckeye fan. He always had a way of making people laugh and have a good time.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie (Walczak); his dog, Kylo, his mother-in-law, Sharon Lawyer (Bob); father-in-law, Jerry Walczak (Ann); his brother-in-law, Jeff Walczak and wife, Betsy (Berman); nieces, Brittany, Masyn (Kandel) Wells and husband, Jamie; nephews; Jack and Harry; aunt, Mary Jo Eichler of Wilmington DE; cousins, Kathy Maxwell (Bob), Steve Eichler (Vickie), John Eichler (Gina), Patti Malatesta (Roger), Joe Eichler (Liz), and Marybeth Cavanaugh (Ric); and his mother, Grace Bruce Morton.
Greg was preceded in death by Divot, Daisy and his beloved Brutus; his father, Roger Morton of Carneys Point NJ; his uncle, Frank Eichler of Wilmington DE; and grandparents, Henrietta and Herbert Morton of Penns Grove, NJ.
There will a celebration of his life in November. More details will follow.
