Gregory “Greg” Allan Stanley, age 60, of the Brashiers Chapel Community of Arab, AL passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital. Greg was born July 11, 1963 in Paintsville, Kentucky. His parents were Lloyd Obe Stanley and Peggy Lois Hackworth Stanley. Greg had been a resident of the area for several years after relocating from Florida. His wife and true love for over 21 years, Evelyn “Joann” Crews Stanley, preceded Greg in death. Greg worked in law enforcement as a prison guard.
Greg loved spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and his dog “Podunk.” He was a little outspoken, a bit goofy and a real go-getter. Greg loved football and was a huge supporter of the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Family members remaining behind and left to cherish their memories include his son, Curtis Stanley (Aimee); daughters, Denise Dorsey (Steven) and Debra Heredia (Brandon); grandchildren, David Heredia, Leah Heredia, B.J. Heredia, Penelope Stanley and Delilah Stanley; brother, Larry Stanley; and cousins raised as sisters, Tamara “Tammy” Leigh Atwood and Rhonda Richards.
Preceding Greg in death includes his wife, Joann Stanley; father, Lloyd Stanley; mother, Peggy Hackworth Stanley; brother, Dan Stanley; and cousin raised as sister, Betty Edwards.
The family has chosen cremation with no public services. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made in Greg’s honor to either St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or to PETA (501 Front St. Norfolk, VA 23510).
