Granville Elliott Tyler, aged 83, of Athens, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born on June 24th, 1942, in McMinnville, Tennessee, to Granville and Frances Elliott Tyler.

Mr. Tyler is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay Herd Tyler, son Dr. David Tyler and Beth, daughter Derinda Gainer and her husband Chris, and grandchildren Adam Tyler, Tyler Gainer, Luke Tyler, and Ellie Gainer.

For nearly 30 years, he served as the head of the math department at Calhoun Community College. His passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as he tutored countless individuals in the community.

As a lifelong follower of Jesus, Elliott found joy in teaching Bible classes. He also enjoyed tennis, golf, vacationing in Moab, Utah, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mr. Tyler’s life at a public graveside service. The service will be held on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, Alabama, officiated by Eddie Littrell. Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Tyler, Luke Tyler, Tyler Gainer, Ellie Gainer, Billy Rhodes, and Brett Rhodes.
