FLORENCE-Mayor Steve Holt and Florence City Council Members, along with Mike Doyle, Manager of the Gas & Water Department, present the Cypress Creek Canoe and Kayak Access Area. We are excited about the completion of our newest water access that gives our community even more ways to enjoy our beautiful city!
The City of Florence as the Gas & Water Department purchased 22 acres of land upstream from the City’s Cypress Creek drinking water plant. The purpose of the purchase was to establish a greenspace buffer for the drinking water plant. In addition, a portion of the property at AL-133 and Jackson Road was developed as the Cypress Creek Canoe/Kayak Public Access Area. The access area includes paved parking for boaters and pedestrian access to the creek for launching canoes and kayaks as well as an area for local fishermen. With the completion of this area, the City of Florence has provided the only public access point for launching canoes and kayaks on Cypress Creek. This project compliments the public exit point on Cypress Creek at Wildwood Park where the Water Department installed the only public exit point under a RC&D grant several years ago.
