The funeral service for Gracie Rice Holmes Brown, age 97 of Montgomery, formerly of Lineville, will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Bro. Jay Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at her daughter’s residence in Montgomery. A Randolph County native, she was born on January 2, 1921, the daughter of George William Rice and Emily McDonald Rice. Mrs. Brown was a former resident of Lineville but had been living in Montgomery for the past nine years. She loved cooking, sewing and taking care of her family and was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church.
Mrs. Brown is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Holmes Brown (Raymond) of Lineville and Linda Holmes Glass (Tommy) of Montgomery; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, J.A. Holmes; her second husband, Hillard Brown; one daughter, Frances Holmes; one grandson, James Brown and her sister, Wilma Key.
Pallbearers will be Jon Dean, Adam Shaddix, David Brown, Tyler Brown, Leon Rogers and Tommy Glass.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231 (heart.org) or the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112 (stroke.org).
