Grace Williams Holmes, 98, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on September 4, 2026. Born February 14, 1928, Grace will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Known to everyone as Momma Grace, she leaves a legacy of steady love, faithful devotion, and quiet strength that shaped her family and community for generations.
Momma Grace lived with a compassionate spirit and a kind-hearted steadiness that made others feel safe, seen, and cared for. She was admired for her honesty—always straightforward, always sincere—and for a wisdom that did not seek attention, but offered guidance with grace. Resilient through life’s changing seasons, she remained an inspirational presence to those around her, not through grand gestures, but through consistent goodness and a devoted heart.
She worked as a bookkeeper, bringing diligence and integrity to her work. In retirement, Momma Grace continued to build friendships and enjoy the simple pleasures of everyday life, living in her own apartment and playing bingo with her many friends—moments that reflected her cherished ability to connect with others and find joy in community.
On June 21, 1956, she married Ira Cordis Holmes. He preceded her in death in 2012. Momma Grace was deeply devoted to her family. She was the mother of three children: Janice Marie Holmes, David Cordis Holmes, and Lisa Holmes Locklin. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and she lovingly helped care for her grandchildren in ways they will never forget.
Her interests reflected a lively mind and a warm heart. She loved to read, and she delighted in dancing the Jitterbug with her husband. In her younger years, she sewed beautifully—creating everything from Barbie Doll clothes to a wedding dress—work that spoke to her patience, care, and the quiet artistry of hands guided by love.
Momma Grace’s life was also marked by faithful service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cullman, Alabama, and she remained active in Beta Sigma Phi service sorority. She also found meaningful connection through her Alzheimer’s group friends on Facebook and supported the Alzheimer’s foundation, offering encouragement and companionship rooted in understanding and compassion.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Enhabit Hospice, with a special thank you to Regina Musgrove and Paige Barringer, who treated Momma Grace as their own. Their kindness and attentive care will be remembered with sincere appreciation.
On the headstone, a line from the 23rd Psalm reflects the faith that carried her and the peace she now knows: “He leadeth me beside the still waters.” Momma Grace was beloved and cherished, and her memory will remain a guiding light—steady, faithful, and full of love.
