Grace Cleo Wright Carver – Obituary

Grace-Carver-1424203160Grace Cleo Wright Carver of Cypress Inn, TN was born March 25, 1919 in Lauderdale Co., AL, the daughter of the late J. Eddie and Alpha Lucinda Darby Wright. Her life started in a log cabin located on the Tennessee/Alabama state line at the Natchez Trace Crossing. Someone ran to Tennessee to tell her father that he had a baby girl since he was working at the barn. She grew up in Wayne County, TN and after graduating at Collinwood High School in 1941, she moved to Michigan and married Cornelius Andrew Carver on October 25, 1942.

Mrs. Carver was a homemaker and of the protestant faith. Two children were born to this union. They returned to Wayne County, Tennessee in the early 1980’s and Mr. Carver preceded her in death on May 28, 1992.

She was a member of the historical society, doing great work for people throughout the United States regarding family histories. Two books on the Darby family were written using her information.

Mrs. Carver departed this life on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Harbert Hills Nursing Home in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 95 Years, 10 Months, 23 Days.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Merian and son, Milton E. (Mel) Carver and wife, Emily all of Cypress Inn, TN; 8 Grandchildren, 8 Great- Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren; a brother, Randall (Lando) Wright of Closon, MI; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Carver was preceded in death by brother, Paul Wright; sisters, Hazel Harris and Laverne Nichols; son-in-law, Harold (Butch) Merian and brother-in-law, Roy Nichols.

Services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Billy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in McGlamery Cemetery, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Monday, February 23, 2015 from 9 am to service time at the funeral home.
