MONTGOMERY-Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday hosted the 61 Correctional Officer Trainees (COTs) who are set to graduate tomorrow from the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Academy.
As public safety remains a forefront issue of the Ivey Administration, Governor Ivey has prioritized her time in order to speak with graduating correctional officers and ALEA Troopers. Today, she met the correctional officer graduates on the front steps of the Governor’s Mansion and shared a challenge with them as they begin their new chapter of public service.
The governor issued the following comment:
“Being willing to step up and serve your community and state is a high calling, especially when it comes to keeping people safe. Our correctional officers are critical to public safety in Alabama, and I challenged these men and women to do their jobs with integrity and dedication. And as they prepare to graduate and get to work, I congratulate them and wish them well as they begin their public service.” – Governor Kay Ivey
On Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., the 61 COTs will graduate at Central Alabama Community College in Prattville. The officers have satisfactorily completed 10 consecutive weeks of training to obtain Alabama Peace Officers’ Standard and Training Commission (APOSTC) certification and to become Correctional Officers.
