MONTGOMERY-Pursuant to the attached and linked memo, Governor Kay Ivey directs flags be returned to full staff on the grounds of the Alabama State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and at state buildings throughout Alabama on January 20, 2025, to honor Inauguration Day.

Flags across the state of Alabama are currently being flown at half-staff through January 29, 2025, in tribute to former President Jimmy Carter who passed away on December 29, 2024.

Federal law, as cited in 4 U.S.C. §6, enumerates times and occasions for display of the U.S flag, including Inauguration Day, January 20.  Accordingly, flags at state buildings in Alabama should be raised to full staff on Monday, January 20, 2025, to honor the inauguration of the new president.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, all flags at state buildings throughout Alabama will once again be lowered to half-staff to resume observance of the 30-day period of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.
