MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey on Friday sent a letter to United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue requesting urgent assistance on behalf of all Alabama agricultural producers.

As a result of significant rainfall, wind and flooding from Tropical Storm Cindy, a large number of Alabama agricultural producers have experienced and will continue to experience significant losses.

“Farmers are vital not only to the economy of Alabama but also the nation as a whole. Tropical Storm Cindy inundated our farm lands with water causing damage to crops. Our farmers need assistance in order to keep our economy and food production systems in balance.”

Governor Ivey also requested a USDA assessment of affected counties so that an agricultural disaster declaration may be determined.
