Sydney Kathryne Watson

MONTGOMERY-Governor Kay Ivey has issued the attached flag-lowering directive in honor of U.S. Wildland Fire Service Firefighter Sydney Kathryne Watson of Corner, Alabama.

Watson dedicated her career to protecting our nation’s forests and natural resources through wildland fire management. She tragically lost her life alongside two fellow firefighters while battling the Knowles Fire in Western Colorado on June 27, 2026.

Flags on the grounds of the State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and statewide should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the date of Watson’s interment.
