Funeral Service for Gordon Stanley, 88 of Hartselle will be Sunday October 28, 2018 at 3:00PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Stanley and Rev. John White officiating with burial in Blue Springs Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be Sunday from 1:30PM-3:00PM at the Funeral Home.  Mr. Stanley was born February 8, 1930 in Jefferson County, AL to Hewlitt A. Stanley and Myrtle M. Lawrence Stanley.   He passed away Friday October 26, 2018 at his residence.  Budd worked hard and he studied well his whole life, but his real thing was his family and friends.  As a youngster he would pick up his big sister Bootsie from the bus stop in a one-horse oxcart.  She was too dignified to ride in it…but he kept doing it.  Despite his ways, Boots’ loved Bud.  Staying back a grade after Bud skipped a few- just so she could look after baby bro..  When he was 14 he was going to school while driving and delivering blocks of ice in Birmingham, and at 16 he was delivering propane.  He turned down a chance to be a Partner in the propane business and took a giant cut in pay to get married, wear a tie and work at Lockheed in Marietta, GA.  But he also continued with his work ethic- finishing his

Industrial Engineering degree after years of doing homework on a bed  with his kids bouncing all around him.  He married the love of his life a red-haired gal and his Somerville Sweetheart—Mary Sue.  For 68 years they had a romance for the ages.  They  had two boys and two red haired girls, and wherever Lockheed landed them, they called home.  Including three years in California in the early 60s just before hippies and during the heyday of the space race.  He taught his family that the world was big, fascinating and worth exploring.  He was proud to the a US Navy reservist for 40 years as a ‘brown shoe’ in  aviation Squadrons.  He was an avid lifetime Civitan, a founding member and president of Lockheed’s Certified Managers and toastmasters.  He was a church deacon, a pal to his kids and a selfless friend to most everyone he met.  He loved to travel and spend time at Mr. Henry’s with his family.  He was at the same time a great role model, and inveterate flirt, and a passionate lover of life.  When Dad passed away Friday Morning—he was staring in Mary Sue’s eyes, wrapped up in his favorite Chair.  We should all be so lucky .  He is Preceded in death by his parents, 1 Brother, Rizzo Stanley, 2 Sisters, Peggy (Stanley) St. John,  Maggie (Stanley) Lisbey.
