MONROEVILLE-More than 50 years after “To Kill a Mockingbird” Harper Lee is set to release her second novel. She wrote the 304 page novel back in the early to mid 50’s this was before “To Kill a Mockingbird” was published in 1960.
Lee decided to put the novel, “Go Set a Watchman” aside and forgot about the book for
over half a century. Lee said she was surprised to find the novel, “Go Set a Watchman” last fall after a friend found the old manuscript attached to an original typed script of “To Kill a Mockingbird”.
The manuscript is tied to “To Kill a Mockingbird” telling the tale of Scout, the heart of “To Kill a Mockingbird” who returns home to
Maycomb, Alabama from New York, after two decades away, for a visits with her father Atticus.
Lee says “After much thought and hesitation, I shared it with a handful of people I trust and was pleased to hear that they considered it worthy of of publication. I am humbled and amazed that this will now be published after all these years.”
“Go Set a Watchman” will get a first printing of two million copies and will be published on July 14, 2015.
