Gloria Jean Jones was born May 20, 1957, in Decatur to the late Eugene and Annie Grace Allen Brackens Jones. She departed this life on June 12, 2014, at her residence.
She was a dedicated mother. No matter the situation she always put her kids first. Two words to describe Gloria would definitely have to be strong and independent. She never broke down under pressure. No matter the situation, she always made sure that her family had food on the table and clothes on their back. Despite how unhealthy her heart had gotten we can definitely say that her heart was made of gold.
Gloria Jean confessed hope in Christ at an early age. As a child, she joined Shiloh M.B. Church. Later, she rededicated her life to Christ at Westside M.B. Church with her youngest son by her side.
Gloria Jean leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Desmond D’Juan Jones of Forrest City, Arkansas, and Jamari Demone Jones of Decatur; one grandson, Rayshun Bates of Decatur; two brothers, Eugene Jones Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and Larry Jones (Karen) of Durham, North Carolina; two sisters, Sylvia Rice of Decatur and Annie Pearl Poteat of Mebane, North Carolina; two devoted friends, Agnes Hayden of Decatur and Peggy B. Allen of Decatur; four nephews, one niece and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Westside M.B. Church and inhumation to follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Pallbearers and flower attendants will be family and friends.
Special thanks to all those who helped to ease the burden during this difficult time.
