Glendon Wayne Cantrell, Sr.Mr. Glendon Wayne Cantrell, Sr., age 82, of Smithville, TN passed away on Wednesday, February 04, 2026 at NHC Healthcare in McMinnville following an extended illness. He was born on November 25, 1943 in Detroit, MI and served our country in the U.S. Army for a short period of his life. He was called into ministry early in life and he showed his love for the Lord every day. He was a 1978 graduate of Memphis School of Preaching and preached for over 40 years at several congregations in Mississippi and Tennessee, especially in Warren County, beginning in 1972. He was a member of the church of Christ at Salem. Outside the ministry, he found great joy in rabbit and squirrel hunting as he reflected on God’s creations. He had a special love for raising his beagle hounds.

 

Survivors include his faithful wife of 60 years Elladean Cantrell, his children Wayne (Peggye) Cantrell, Carol (Greg) Rains, and Renee Anderson, grandchildren Erin (Hunter) Patterson, Erica (Alex) Delk, Sarah (Jon) Thompson, Grace (Cameron) Miller, Rachel Anderson, and Philip Anderson (fiancé Olivia Miller), great grandchildren Avonlea Thompson, James Thompson, Luke Miller, and Will Miller, and special cousins Everett Campbell, Patsy Graves, and Glen Campbell. He is preceded in death by his parents Bernie Lee Cantrell, Jr. and Ona Kirby Cantrell and special cousin Thomas Campbell.

 

Funeral service for Glendon is scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 06, 2026 in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Wayne Cantrell and Greg Rains will officiate. Interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery in DeKalb County. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.
