Funeral Services for Mrs. Glenda Ruth Moore, age 78 of Ashland, will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Raymond Long officiating. Burial will follow at Fellowship Cemetery in Alexander City.
Mrs. Moore passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at her home. She was born and raised in Clay County, and had worked for Dairy Queen in Ashland, as well as Higgins Manufacturing and Russell Mills as a seamstress for several years. She was a dedicated Mother and Grandmother to several Generations of the Moore Family, and was honored to spend the majority of her life caring and providing for her family. Her food specialties included Chicken Dressing, Banana Pudding, and homemade Biscuits. Mrs. Moore enjoyed playing Bingo, fishing, tending to her flowers, and watching Gunsmoke. She was outspoken, but never met a stranger, and will be dearly missed. Mrs. Moore was a member of Sardis Baptist Church, and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to many.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her children: Angela Brown (Jeffery) of Lineville, Charles Davidson (Terry) of Jackson’s Gap, James Edward Moore (Sharon) of Jacksonville, Timothy Moore of Alexander City, Greg Moore (Lisa) of Goodwater, and Brian Moore (Marsha) of Ashland; 33 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Effie Mae Little of Alexander City and Janice Bishop (Harold) of Ashland; two brothers: Robert McVey of Alexander City and Bobbie McVey (Dianne) of Eastaboga, plus a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Charlie Leon and Essie Bowman McVey; her children’s father, James T. Moore; one son, Burt Wayne Moore; grandson, Austin Combest; great-grandson, Raymond Cole Davidson; four sisters: Inez Jones, Johnnie McVey, Ruby Gravette, and Lillian Flournoy; and six brothers: Calvin, Charles, James Earl, Jerry, Charles Ray, and Jerry Lynn McVey.
Her grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
Her visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2024 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland, beginning at 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
