Glenda Montez Willingham Benson (Tez), 70, of Tuscumbia departed this life Sunday, March 24, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Her funeral services will be Wednesday, March 27 at 11 am in the Funeral Home Chapel of Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, with Brother Ed White officiating. Burial will follow at Guy Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph and Joshua Southern, Barry Willingham, David Donaldson, Daniel Pannell, Kadin McNatt, and Alex Wadkins. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Malone, Mike and Marty Willingham, Anna and Lauren Harrison, and Dr. Laurence Carmichael.
Glenda was a member of Valdosta Church of Christ. She spent over 40 years working as a beautician in Tuscumbia. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She was a wonderful Christian, always wanting everyone around her to know the Lord and go to Heaven. She was a wonderful caregiver to her husband until his death in 2003 and to her mother, Ruby Willingham, until her death in 2010. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, preparing meals and spending endless hours of talking and laughing. She loved her dog, Sweetie Boy but had to give him away due to her illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ruby Black Willingham, husband James Roland Benson, brothers Frederick, Glenn, Harold, and Joe Willingham, sisters Jean McCorkle and Martha Archer, and her special nephew Chris McNatt.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Southern and husband Joel, Gina Harrison and husband Steve. Grandsons, Joseph Southern and wife April, Josh Southern and wife Tiffany, granddaughters, Anna and Lauren Harrison, great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Jaydenn Southern, a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, and her special sister-in-law Linda Willingham whom she loved like a sister.
The family would like to thank Helen Keller Hospital, Southern Care Hospice, and niece Kathy, Colbert County Home Health – Angela, Serita, Kris, and Levita. Special nieces, JoAnne Malone and Vicki Brown, and Dr. Laurence Carmichael, for his countless hours of care.
