Glenda Fay Clifton was born in Bessemer, Alabama on September 30, 1948 to Raymond (Pete) Norris and Hattie Louise Shamblin.
Her father left and moved back to Oklahoma, and she moved to Florence, Alabama with her mother and twin sister, Linda Kay. After graduating from Coffee High School, she met and married Jimmy Dale Clifton in 1968 and they lived in Paducah, Kentucky. They made their way back to Cherokee, Alabama and bought their dream home in 1974 which she was proud of for 50 years.
She wasn’t around her father very much growing up but spoke fondly of trips to Oklahoma and inheriting his truck after he passed.
She worked at a bank in her younger years but was content to be a homemaker and helper to Jimmy. She volunteered at the Cherokee Public Library for many years. She loved walking to the Senior Center and quilting with her friends, most of whom have preceded her in death. She loved canning and freezing food from their garden, cooking, crafts, but most of all quilting. She always loved and spoke fondly of her pups, Sargeant, Angel, and Cocoa.
She was a faithful helper to Jimmy and stood by his side through his work career at Colbert Steam Plant, his training classes and all the volunteer work they did with the fire department and the young people of Cherokee. She attended both Mt. Hester and Maud Presbyterian churches.
Even though she was homebound for almost 10 years and bedridden for the last 22 months of her life, she was always so excited to hear about others’ lives, their families, and their trips. She looked forward to seeing new photos of Stella, Kaden, and Samson every Thursday. She prayed for others and worried about Kaden until she was told he was legally part of our family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, her parents Pete Norris and Louise Smith, and her sister Kay Patterson.
She is survived by her aunt and uncle Jerry & Mary Jo McCollister, sisters-in-law Debbie Williams and Rita (Tim) Gilbert, cousins Linda (Robert) Parsons and Beverly (Grant) Atkins and a number of other relatives. She is also survived by a special friend, Sue Reeves.
