Glenda Carole Smith Mercer, 84, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed from this life to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on March 12, 2025. She was born on July 12, 1940, to Clifford and Estelle Smith in Jacksonville, Alabama.
Glenda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to serving her family, her Lord, and His church. She was baptized on May 16, 1951, and was a faithful member of the Randolph Church of Christ. She taught Bible classes for many years for little children. She loved drawing, painting, and singing. She delighted in her grandchildren. She loved her numerous nieces and nephews. She was married to Jim Mercer, Sr. for almost 56 years
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Smyth Mercer, Sr. and her parents. She is survived by her 3 children, Jimmy (Carol) Mercer, Jr., Steven (Teri) Mercer, and Jeffrey (Emmie) Mercer; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger brother, Ed Smith; and younger sister, Phyllis Alexander (Tom). Libby (Mercer) Jones and Fran (Mercer) Strickland remain devoted sisters-in-law.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave. SW, Huntsville, Alabama. A funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
