Mrs. Gladys Murrell Howard, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19 at the AdamsPlace Continuing Care in Murfreesboro, Tennessee after a long struggle with illness. She was born in Huntsville, AL on October 7, 1931 and graduated from Huntsville High School. She married Brandt Howard on April 16, 1957 and moved to Eglin AFB, FL. During her husband’s time in the U.S. Air Force, she lived in Plattsburgh, NY, Edwards AFB, CA, and Ramstein Germany. After her husband’s retirement from the military, they moved back to Huntsville, AL in 1973. In January 2011, she became a resident of Stones River Manor Assisted Living in Murfreesboro, TN where she stayed for five years and then moved to AdamsPlace for nursing care in July of 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband M. Brandt Howard, her parents Tom and Daisy Murrell and siblings Joe Murrell and Jane Graben. She is survived by her son, Michael Howard (Donna) of Murfreesboro, TN; granddaughters, Britney White (Tanner) of Warrior, AL and Allison Howard of Murfreesboro, TN; and two nieces.
She was a long-time member of the Weatherly Heights Church of Christ in Huntsville and the Leanna Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, TN in recent years.
She enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her dear friends and church family.
The family would like to extend special gratitude to the wonderful staff of nurses and technicians at the AdamsPlace for their loving care and support of Gladys in recent months.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 22, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Kevin Dye, minister of Leanna Church of Christ, will be officiating.
