Gladies Leigh Davis Pettus wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother, biscuit maker, seamstress, gardener, friend and Christian, passed from this earthly home on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. She was surrounded by her family at her home in Lexington, AL. Gladies was born in Leoma, TN on 3/30/1921 to Frank and Beatrice Davis. She married the love of her life, Harvell “Hob” Porter Pettus on July 23, 1938. They were happily married for 63 wonderful years.
Gladies loved life. She was happy to be digging in the garden planting vegetables or flowers and sharing the fruits of her labors with friends and family. She loved her Lord and cherished the times she was singing hymns with the family.

She also leaves behind her 6 prized grandchildren, 19 adored great-grandchildren, and 4 beloved great, great, grandchildren. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, both family and added family, cousins, friends, and lifelong acquaintances. She also leaves her special family, Billy and Bonnie Snider, Jonathan, Jamie and families who affectionately called her, “Mrs. Pet”.
She was preceded in death by her Husband Harvell Hob Pettus; Son, Harvell Wyatt Pettus,(Mary) of Elkmont, AL; Father, William Frank Davis and Mother Fanny Beatrice Davis of Atlanta , GA: Sister, Florine Lowther, of Los Angeles, CA; Brother, Seldon Davis of Fayetteville, GA; Brother, Cliff Davis of Fayetteville, GA; Brother Johnny Davis of Marietta, GA; Brother Lin Davis of Austell, GA; Sister Ivadell Taylor of Austell, GA; and Brother Warren G. Davis of Florence, AL.
The family wishes to give special thanks to her loved caregivers Vern Michael and Macke Pettus for their constant love and care they provided for our mother. Also, words can’t express our gratitude to Amedysis Hospice for their care, compassion and undivided attention for our mother. Special thanks and our love goes to RN Kristen Howard, RN Lee Moody and Assistant Kim Morris for the tenderness shown not only to mother, but to the entire family during this time. You are Angels of Mercy.
Visitation and funeral services will be at Loretto Memorial Chapel, in Loretto, TN. Tuesday, May 24, 2016. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. Burial will be at Pettus Cemetery in Lexington, AL
Pall Bearers will be Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Kevin Corum, Reggie Corum, Buck Bailey, Kim White, Penny Hanners, Paige Dobbins, Chuck Bailey, Hunter Corum, Tanner Corum, Raygan White, Collins Hanners, and Coleman Dobbins.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Great Grandchildren. Anna Corum, Melanie Daves, Riley Corum, Carrie Leigh Hanners, Alex Dobbins, Bailey White, KK White, Marshall White, Maddox Bailey, Trey Bailey, JaxAnn Bailey, Axel Bailey and Hunter Hatton.
