Gilbert Randell “Randy / Sleepy” Lewter, 71, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at his home in Ardmore, Alabama.
Randy was born on Wednesday, May 12, 1954, in Limestone County, Alabama to Gilbert Lewter and Ava Lynn Hastings Lewter.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and his animals. Sleepy liked to ride his Harley Davidson, talk to his friends on Face Book, and spent a lot of time sitting on the back porch watching the birds.
Randy was preceeded in death by both of his parents, one son: Mark Randell Lewter, one brother: Dell Lewter, as well as one grandfather: Granddaddy “Heck” Hastings.
He was survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Pitts Lewter, one son: David (Kelly) Pitts, two grandchildren: Kristina Pitts, Cheyenne Pitts, two great grandchildren: Wyatt Pitts, Les Coffman as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. A chapel service located at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home is scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2026, beginning at 1:00 pm with Bro. Heath Haney officiating. Burial will be at Hastings Cemetery located in Ardmore, Alabama.
Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home will be assisting the family with services.
