Gilbert Donald Proctor, “Lil’n”, age 72, of Russellville, AL, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Born on May 17, 1954 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Marion and Josephine Proctor. He lived a life marked by love of family, loyalty, service, and devotion to our country as a United States Marine.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for three years. During his military service, he served with honor and dedication, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Expert Badge.
Outside of his military service, he was a truck driver by trade and a traveler at heart, always happiest when there was another road to take with his son AJ. He enjoyed a good game of pool or cards and was well known for teasing waitresses just enough to make them roll their eyes and laugh. His quick wit and sarcastic personality made him unforgettable.
He is preceded in death by his son Larry Glen George Jr., grandson Jagger Mills, parents Marion Gilbert and Josephine Nettie Proctor, and his brother Ronald Proctor.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Apollo “AJ” Proctor, Bryne George (Misty), Cassie Holt; grandchildren, Hannah South, Jason Borden, Cody Holt, Morgan Pate, Savannah James; a host of great-grandchildren, and Brandon Wilson, whom he loved as a son.
A “celebration of life” visitation will be held 5:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, July 30, 2026 @ Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. Military honors, including the presentation of the United States flag, will be conducted at the close of the memorial service.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jimmy “JR” and Mary Ann Reatherford, friends, and medical professionals for their kindness and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice in his honor.
