pumpkin-dropFLORENCE – The October First Fridays will kick off at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 7 on Court Street in historic downtown Florence. Scheduled activities will conclude by 8 p.m.
“October just might be one of my favorite months for First Fridays,” said Belinda Duke, First Fridays committee chairwoman. “The weather has cooled, and everyone is in the mood for fall and the great things we have planned for this very fun night in downtown Florence.”
The theme for this month’s celebration is “The Great Pumpkin Drop,” Duke said. Event goers always enjoy watching the big pumpkin get dropped in the middle of the Court Street and Mobile Plaza intersection, and that’s scheduled to take place between 6:45 and 7:15 p.m. This year, the pumpkin will drop courtesy of the University of North Alabama National Championship Softball Team and Coach Ashley Cozart.
The pumpkin theme is also evident in the pumpkin decorating contest. Folks who would like to enter are asked to have their decorated pumpkin at the First Fridays tent no later than 5:15 p.m. in order to be judged. Duke said there will also be a costume contest, and event goers are ask to wear their Halloween best.
Music will kick off on the Big River Broadcasting stage at 5 p.m. with Dustin Richardson. At 6 p.m., Noah Jordan will take the stage. The music set will be closed out by Fathers and Sons at 7 p.m. You don’t want to miss these great bands.
Also in attendance at the Oct. 7 First Fridays will be representatives from the Renaissance Faire, which is scheduled to take place Oct. 22-23 in Wilson Park in downtown Florence. The Ghostbusters will also be on hand to handle any pesky poltergeists!
The Classic Car and Truck show will anchor the North end of Court Street.
Dozens of vendors have registered to participate in the October event. Duke said there are a number of new vendors on tap for the October event, and their hand-crafted wares would make great gifts for the holidays. From fine artists and wood crafters to candle and jewelry makers, there is sure to be something for everyone.
